The Season 2 Premiere of Black Expat Stories Is Here!

In episode 1, I'm talking to the woman who is schooling me (and the world) on Afro-Mexicans

Season 2 of Black Expat Stories is here and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you.

After a 6-month hiatus filled with its fair share of ups, downs, and unexpected delays, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to bring you even more honest, timely, and deeply resonant conversations with the folks pioneering what I truly believe is America’s next great migration: the Blaxit.

And today, I’m thrilled to finally share our season premiere.

Episode 1: How Diva Green’s I Got Your Black Platform Is Connecting the Diaspora Through Travel

I'll be honest with you. Until a few years ago, I didn't know Afro-Mexicans existed…

Although, I feel like I should have known that.

I also didn't know there were entire towns filled with Black folks who've been in Mexico for generations (over 2.5 million people…and counting!)

And I definitely didn't know that they only made it onto the Mexican census a few years ago - in 2020.

My next guest on the pod, Diva Green, has been my teacher and in this latest Black Expat Stories episode, she just might become yours, too.

Ever since our worlds collided here in Playa Del Carmen, she's been schooling me—and tens of thousands of others—on platforms like Instagram and TikTok about the rich Afro-Indigenous history, presence, and influence that exists all around the world.

I Got Your Black Is Helping Black Travelers Move Through the World With More Knowledge and Intention

Diva isn't your average travel content creator, though.

She's a destination storyteller who's on a mission to uplift the voices of Afro-Indigenous populations that don't often get much shine via her platform, I Got Your Black.

Through intentional cultural immersions, community-based travel, and storytelling rooted in lived experience, Diva connects Black travelers with Afro-Indigenous communities across Mexico and beyond.

She helps us trace our Diasporic lineages, learn our histories, and understand that we belong.

We've been here. We've been everywhere.

And I swear, every time she pops up on my feed, I walk away knowing something I didn't before.

I'm also challenged to think more deeply about how I'm showing up as both a world traveler and an expat.

What I love about her content is that it invites us to reflect and ask ourselves: Am I traveling/living here to consume? Or am I traveling/living here to connect?

In this SEASON PREMIERE episode, we also talk about:

  • The powerful story behind I Got Your Black and about how it was born out of grief and protest in the wake of Eric Garner's death.

  • How Diva began using travel not just as escape, but as a form of activism.

  • The six months she spent living in an Afro-Mexican town—and how that experience transformed the way she sees community, identity, and belonging.

  • How Diva’s now inviting others to experience the depth of Afro-Mexican history and culture firsthand through her Afro Mexico Immersion Trips.

  • What it's been like readjusting to life in the U.S. after nearly four years abroad…

  • And, finally, what excites—and concerns—her most about the growing Blaxit movement.

…and so much more.

Diva's story is a powerful reminder that travel isn't just about where we go—it's about how we arrive and who we choose to become along the way.

If you're curious about what it means to move through the world more intentionally as a conscious global citizen…

This is an episode you don't want to miss.
